School Committee Meeting

The Gateway Regional School Committee will hold a regular meeting at RH Conwell school this Wednesday, March 24 at 7:30pm.  Please come and share your thoughts about the FY11 budget passed this month by the school committee or other topics.

School Committee Budget Approval

On March 10, the Gateway Regional School Committee approved a budget that will cost taxpayers money for the closing of three elementary schools.  With increased spending of over $1.3 million dollars at the remaining schools, an extra $200,000 budgeted for students lost to school choice, and a payback to the state for the closed schools of $327,000, elementary school consolidation will COST district taxpayers over $50,000 this year.  This doesn't include extra costs to the towns of Blandford, Russell and Worthington for the maintenance of the closed schools.

On March 15, the Hampshire Gazette reported on local superintendent salaries.  Despite leading one of the smaller school systems, Gateway superintendent David Hopson is identified as the only area superintendent now making more than $150,000.  http://www.gazettenet.com/2010/03/15/sellers-market

Whoo Hooo we have a new Blog!

The soul purpose for our new "Worthington Ad Hoc Blog" is to help inform our community of multiple options being considered and researched with regard to Russell H Conwell School.  It is of utmost importance to all of us as a committee to consider the big picture, and what it is that our towns people, parents and non-parents alike, would support going forward.  We appreciate all the support we have had throughout the year.  Please stay tuned!
